The Kites Strike Again

Apparently, we've decided to make kite flying a Mother's Day tradition. :) Spencer bought me kites for Mother's Day last year and we dusted them off (and by dusted I mean spent an hour untangling the strings...) this year to keep the kite flying dream alive. We invited some neighbors along and had a lovely afternoon of kite running.
We've discovered that not all kites are created equal. The Watson's one dollar kites were by far the easiest to get (and maintain) in the air. Our somewhat more expensive kites were much more obstinate. I guess the fancier the kite, the more "skill" it takes to keep it in the air. Meanwhile, the kids looked like kite flying champions and we looked somewhat pathetic. And by "we" I mean me. :)
Grace wasn't as interested in kite flying this year as she was last year. She loved seeing the kites in the air, but mostly spent her time running around and stealing the other kids' snacks--as is her custom. I think that the difference is mostly due to an increase in mobility. Interest is easily feigned by an inability to escape the task at hand. This year, she could escape. :) At one point she very pointedly said, "Kites. All done. All done, kites." and went off to have some Lucky Charms.
And just for the record, it's really hard to get a good picture of someone flying a kite.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

ahh, kites, gotta love them. Isaac got one for Easter but we haven't used it yet. I remember I think it was on your blog reading a recommendation for the Kite Runner. I've been borrowing my mom's copy for a while but hadn't read it yet! Well, I'm finally reading it right now!

So... what is going on with you guys now?! :)

I think you may have been commenting on our blog and I always responded on my other friend's blog because her name is Anna and I thought that comments from you said, "Spencer and Anna." So if you think I was ignoring you, I'm sorry. I bet the other Anna was very confused by my responses. I couldn't figure out your comment because I was thinking, "Anna [other Anna] didn't strike me as a marathon runner." Whoops.

I KNOW you are doing things and not blogging about them! Come on, Anna! I want to see what Grace is doing these days! I cannot believe she is almost two!

I couldn't resist taking a picture of Alex playing with the toilet paper. I caught him halfway through but let him continue (one time only) because I feel it is his passage into being a real kid/menace.
